Role Purpose
The Right-of-Way (ROW) Lead is responsible for land acquisition, managing all right-of-way processes and ensuring the timely securing of permits, land easements, and legal clearances necessary for the successful development of power transmission projects. The ROW Lead will coordinate with landowners, legal teams, environmental consultants, and local authorities to negotiate agreements, resolve conflicts, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the negotiation and acquisition of land rights, easements, and access agreements with property owners for Substation & Transmission projects.
- Ensure ROW agreements comply with legal & regulatory requirements.
- Conduct site visits to assess landowner concerns and project impact.
- Support tendering by assessing plot plans, pricing, and identifying risks in bids & execution.
- Collaborate with environmental, legal, and engineering teams to ensure on compliance.
- Oversee documentation & submission of permits and regulatory compliance.
- Act as the primary contact for property owners, resolving queries and disputes.
- Manage and foster strong relationships with local government agencies & stakeholders.
- Maintain ongoing communication about project timelines & updates to landowners & other stakeholders.
- Work closely with engineering, construction, and project management teams to integrate ROW activities with the overall substation project schedule.
- Prepare regular reports for project management, outlining ROW status, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Identify & address potential risks associated with land acquisition, such as disputes, delays in permitting, or environmental concerns.
- Ensure all legal and financial aspects of land deals are appropriately addressed and documented to protect the company’s interests.
- Monitor ROW-related costs and ensure they align with the approved project budget.
- Negotiate cost-effective agreements with landowners and service providers.
Indicative Experience and Exposure
- Bachelor’s degree in real estate, land management, Civil Engineering, Law, or a related field.
- Minimum 10-15 years of experience in ROW acquisition, land negotiations, or related roles, preferably within the power or utilities sector.
- Proven experience working on Substation or similar energy infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with legal processes related to land acquisition and permitting.
