Role Purpose
- The role holder has end-to-end accountability for the completion of a Railway project.
- The incumbent is expected to ensure the smooth execution of the project within expected quality and time by providing guidance to the project team.
- The focus is on driving the areas of project performance in terms of cost, quality, safety, people management, project progress, issue resolution, risk analysis & mitigation, stakeholder management and as a liaison.
- The incumbent is expected to work with stakeholders in corporate office to provide accurate information as well as enable project/organisation level decision making on execution aspects.
- The incumbent is also expected to identify opportunities for process optimization based on ground realities.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Performance – Create the draft project plan based on the changing client requirements and send it to the corporate planning team for finalization and approval. Incorporate the safety and sub-functional (Civil, OHE, Structure, Building and Track Laying) nuances in the project plan. Plan, review and approve the month-wise work plan for the entire team, which identify the sequence of activities needed to successfully complete the project based on the approved project plan. Finalise and approve the estimates and plans for the requirement and optimisation of resources - time, money, manpower, equipment etc. for the project. Pre-determine the objectives and measures upon which the project will be evaluated at various stages and its completion. Manage the project cost by ensuring on time execution and meeting project standards.
- Project Delivery – Review the project progress and identify the underlying deviations from the schedule. Ensure that the project deliverables are on time within budget and at the required level of quality and safety. Ensure the financial and people performance remain above certain set standards at all stages of project cycle. Liaise with the relevant authorities for necessary project approvals (e.g. Roads, Electricity boards, Green belt approvals etc.). Ensure adherence to all compliance as well as SOPs (standard operating processes) set by GRIL corporate office. Identify and onboard relevant, proven and experienced contractors. Identify the variations in additional items and initiate the change of scope process. The role holder also reviews the client bills before getting them certified by the client.
- Stakeholder Management – Liaise with the client, consultant and relevant government officials to acquire necessary approvals. Apprise the team and senior management about the project progress and request support for providing necessary inputs to ensure smooth project execution.
- MIS & Reporting – Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders, including senior managers in the organisation on the progress of the project. Monitor the cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to senior management on regular basis.
- People Management –Facilitate development and growth of direct and indirect reportees while keeping track of overall project employee engagement and attrition. Ensure all the employee grievances are handled in the appropriate manner.
Indicative Experience and Exposure
- Diploma in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical with 15-19 years experience in handling Railways projects
or
- B.E./B.Tech with 13-17 years experience or M.Tech with 12-16 years experience in handling railways projects
